Hoërskool Grens Dive Marathon – 48 hours under water –26th to 28th April 2013.
This is a once off, once in a life time event that has never been held in the Eastern Cape (perhaps RSA!!) wherein two 15 year old school boys (Ruan Schoombee and Jeandre Jelliman) take on such a challenge to raise funds for their school, by spending 24 hours submerged in scuba gear, in a tank, at a shopping centre!!!.
The tank is to be placed at the Vincent Park Centre, for the period of 5 or 6 days, in the Mugg & Bean forecourt, to ensure maximum foot traffic. Not only is this a feat that has, to our knowledge never been done before, but it is exceptional in itself in the originality of a fund raising event for a very worthy cause.
The boys, both advanced divers, will be attempting a 24 hour scuba marathon in order to raise funds for their school, Hoërskool Grens and raise awareness of diving in East London, with the full sanction of the school. We confirm that any and all funds raised will be utilised for sport and extra mural activities of the school. To keep the event alive, once the boys have completed their 24 hours, other divers from the school and local clubs will continue for another 24 hours!!!
We have obtained permission from Vincent Park Centre to attach Chromadek sheets to the wall facing Frere Road, on the upper level, next to the Mugg & Bean. These Chromadek sheets, measure 2.4m by 2.4m with your Brick, measuring 263mm by 172mm high. Quite a sizable “brick”, easily seen from a distance.
The board is already up at the centre and will remain prominently displayed at the centre until the event is held – 26 to 28th April 2013. Hence for a nominal amount (R500 minimum) you will get exposure at one of the busiest centres in East London for at least 6 weeks.
Due to the positioning of the “wall”, we believe that most persons attending to the centre will see your name prominently displayed, not only as an advertisement but to show your enthusiasm to support an unique and worthy cause.

During the event itself there will be lucky draws, competitions to enter and lots of inter-active activities between the public and those in the tank – come join in the fun
