The project established in conjunction with the Department of Economic Development and Environmental Affairs (DEDEA) and the Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC) aims to mainstream B-BBEE in the formal economy through opportunity identification and matching. This is achieved through communicating the state of play in B-BBEE legislation and the maintenance of a database of B-BBEE suppliers and their services. Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) is an initiative launched by the Government to address the economic restrictions that exist within the country for Black individuals to participate fairly in the economy. The BEE Act allows for the existence of the BEE ‘Codes of Good Practice' which provides the structures for the Scorecards and certain rules associated with claiming BEE points. Many elements of the B-BBEE Framework have been put in place, including sector charters, codes of good practice and verification processes. BEE Governing Bodies are The Department of Trade and Industry, ABVA and SANAS. Becoming BEE compliant is an essential part of doing business in South Africa, for companies who do business with government. It is thus essential to get an understanding of what BEE is, how it affects your company and what you need to do in order to create a scorecard as quickly and cost effectively as possible. The BEE Project of the Chamber thus aims to increase the awareness of B-BBEE in the region, identify BEE procurement opportunities between corporate companies, government departments and suppliers, highlight various procurement policies and facilitate access to information, tender assistance and general business advice. The BEE Unit has established an advisory forum which is representative of relevant stakeholders to the BKCOB. The core B-BBEE Forum may invite other representation as may be necessary for the benefit of the project. The main purpose for this forum is to provide a platform for dialogue on the B-BBEE agenda, policies and practices as well as be used as a tool to report on project implementation. The core focus and objective of the BEE Project is to: Maintain both Supply and Demand Databases :
The database management system is intended to assist businesses to find B-BBEE compliant companies that match specific requirements with relevant procurement opportunities. To participate in both supply and demand databases, you are required to register with the BEE Project. Contact Verdra Brown: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
