Survey : Indi-Atlantic Tourism Route – Urban Econ
The National Department of Tourism has appointed Urban-Econ Development Economists (Pty) Ltd. and Open Africa to conduct a Supply and Demand Analysis for the Indi-Atlantic Route, which will cover South Africa’s four coastal provinces namely, Northern Cape, Western Cape, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu- Natal.
The main objective is to develop a comprehensive Supply and Demand Analysis report. South Africa’s coastline has enormous tourism potential and while many coastal areas are already benefiting from significant visitor numbers, there are many areas that have still not reached their full potential. The Indi-Atlantic Route was identified as a strategic project under government’s Operation Phakisa that aims to unlock economic potential of South Africa’s coastline. The route is intended to aggregate the impact of a number of existing tourism routes along the coastline while maintaining their individual identities and brands. The route will not replace any existing routes, but act as an umbrella where all existing efforts can be consolidated into a cohesive marketing drive for South Africa’s coastal areas.
The questionnaire aims to gain insight from various product owners along South Africa’s coastline, so that the NDT could obtain insight and gather information into tourism activities, services, and enterprises along the Indi-Atlantic Route and inform future strategies and interventions to develop the full potential of the Route.
