The Life Cycle Management (LCM) training is presented as a two- day training workshop to raise awareness and understanding about life cycle management in South Africa, and aims to build capacity of life cycle management practices within organisations. 

Participants will learn, share and discuss how companies and the public sector can work towards a sustainable development platform using life cycle methodologies, and the overall purpose of the training workshops are to: 

  • To raise awareness and understanding among authorities, industry and academia in South Africa about life cycle management.
  • To capacitate industry delegates for further implementation of life cycle management practices within their businesses.
  • Build capacity on life cycle management o Provide a platform for future capacity building initiatives around life cycle management in South Africa.
  • Introduce related ISO standards and existing best practices in order to achieve sustainable development.
  • Provide a platform to share experiences and discuss issues related to the implementation and future development of life cycle management strategies in the country. 

The Life Cycle Management training workshops will include: 

  • The role of environmental footprints and life cycle management for sustainable businesses, aspects and opportunities for South Africa.
  • Introduction to Life Cycle Management and the Capability Maturity Model
  • Continuous Improvement in LCM – driving innovation o Basic concepts such as Life Cycle Assessments and Life Cycle Costing
  • Opportunities and challenges for life cycle management in South Africa 

WHO SHOULD ATTEND The Life Cycle Management 2-day training workshop is aimed at industry, academia and government, including: 

• Business and industry organisations to implement such tools in their company practices, 

• Government officials at different levels to create the relevant enabling policy framework, 

• Academics and other training institutions to continue building capacity (beyond the project’s implementation period), and 

• Standard-setters to participate in international negotiations and standard setting processes for a given region to adjust the system to local differences. 

No prior life cycle management knowledge is required.
