The Border-Kei Chamber of Business launched its inaugural Business Awards in 2023. The Awards aim to recognise outstanding businesses and individuals for their valuable contributions to the Border-Kei economy.

The Awards Ceremony will be held annually at the BKCOB Gala Event in November. Businesses and organisations whose achievements in the workplace are inspirational and positively influence the  Border Kei region and economy, will be showcased.

By participating in the BKCOB Business Awards, you will be aligning yourself with other businesses and organisations that are striving towards managing their triple bottom line more efficiently and effectively. 

The nominees must: 

o To be eligible for nomination you must be a paid-up member of the BKCOB (Should you not be a member of the BKCOB at the time of the                     nomination you may still register and pay your membership fees)

o Be a registered business in South Africa based in the Border-Kei region and residing in the Border-Kei region

o Be a South African resident or citizen residing in the Border-Kei region (individual categories).

o Be legally compliant and have no matters of material concern that could compromise the integrity of the BKCOB Awards (individual and business       categories)

o Winners / Finalists are not eligible for re-nomination within 3 years of their previous nomination

o Winners are not eligible for re-nomination in the same category

o Winners have to avail themselves for BKCOB forums and events post the BKCOB awards

 

There are six categories of awards sponsored by Category Partners: –

The following criteria apply to all categories: 

1. EMERGING ENTREPRENEUR CATEGORY

· The business may not be trading for more than 5 years

· Turnover should not exceed R5 Million

· The business should be minimum at breakeven point

 

2. ENTREPRENEUR CATEGORY

· The business should be trading for more than 3 years

· Turnover in excess of R5 Million

· The business should be profitable

· Make a meaningful contribution to their community

 

3. BUSINESSWOMAN OF THE YEAR CATEGORY

· Be a woman

· If an entrepreneur – needs to be a minimum of 50% shareholder in a profitable business

· If an employee within a Corporate – needs to be in a senior leadership role for more than 5 years

· Have a track record in women’s upliftment / development

 

4. BUSINESS LEGEND CATEGORY

· Be in a senior executive role or retired in a senior executive role

· Has had a significant impact on the local economy

· Has contributed positively to civil society

· Be a business pioneer

 

5. CORPORATE GOLD CATEGORY

· The business should be trading for more than 5 years

· Turnover between R10 – 50 Million

· The business should be profitable

· The business needs to employ a minimum of 30 staff members

 

6. CORPORATE PLATINUM CATEGORY

· The business should be trading for more than 5 years

· Turnover exceeding R50 Million

· The business should be profitable

· The business needs to employ a minimum of 50 staff members
