[Johannesburg, South Africa, 28 May 2019] Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) is doing everything within its means to avert a potential strike by members of the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU).
This follows the 48-hour notice issued by SATAWU confirming its intention for TNPA Marine Personnel to embark on a protected strike action from 17h30 on Wednesday.
The potential strike action is the result of an unresolved dispute of mutual interest that exists between TNPA Marine Personnel who are members of SATAWU and TNPA. It is anticipated that participants will include SATAWU-affiliated Marine Pilots, Tug Masters and Chief Marine Engineering Officers.

The contingency measures will ensure minimum disruption to operations. Whilst this would be a protected strike, the principle of no work no pay will apply.
